This is the second Warner box set that repackages Andras Schiff's 1995-99 solo recordings; like the companion "group" set Andras Schiff - Concertos and Chamber Works, it represents extremely good value, both in monetary and artistic terms.

CDs 1 & 2 hold Schiff's Haydn sonata recordings from 1998, and these were originally released as Haydn - Piano Sonatas; excellent performances of these beautiful and often overlooked works.

CD 3 is an interesting traversal of Handel's Suite 1, Brahms' Handel Variations, and Reger's Bach Variations. This was originally issued in 1995 as Handel/Brahms/Reger: Piano Works and has also been on a mid-price Warner "Elatus" release (which are, so I understand, "copy-protected" and thus probably best avoided).

CDs 4 & 5 contain various of Schumann's piano works and were originally released as Schumann: Davidsbundlertanze, Blumenstuck, Arabesque And Symphonic EtudeSchumann - Kreisleriana.

CD 6 is terrific and has Polkas from Smetana. This was originally on Smetana - Piano Works.

Highly recommended, as this box contains a good mixture of the well-known and relatively obscure and that's often good for one's ears!
